First Craging

Yesterday Dave and I post-holed into the Secret Garden area. There is still some snow. We needed tarps to cover the large puddles forming on top of the ice/slush so our crash pads would stay dry. We saw others out bouldering, and also heard someone crack climbing up higher on what looked like mostly dry rock. I'd say in a few more weeks of good weather and conditions will be perfect.

Looks like fun.

As long as it still takes a few more weeks for climbing season to start, I'll be happy.

I'm fairly bitter about climbing right now, as I pulled too hard on a bad hold in the gym a week ago, and now have an unhappy tendon in one of my fingers...

I hear you. For me, my thesis is done and I'm planning a trip to Bishop after defending, so I've been focusing on getting back some of the lost climbing strength sapped from me due to the tail-end of grad school. I'm losing some weight, now that the sitting-on-my-ass-all-day-and-typing period of my life is through.

As far as conditions go, we are in a sort of purgatory now, with the good (abundant) powder skiing on the wain and the climbing conditions sub-optimal. To do some good and hard boulder problems I think now is the time though. The spring bouldering season is slim, as usually it goes from too wet to too hot in a matter of a week. If you can find a dry rock now though, you are going to get some good stick.

Don't leave for Bishop before PowderKeg weekend! I can't wait for the showdown. I predict that Ben will school us all. The course will be littered with the bones of his competitors, and he will drink his victory beer out of Bruce Tremper's skull.

I will be leaving Satruday morning. I will not be entering pKeg. First because I haven't skied in over a month and I don't feel like starting now, and second because I don't want to spend money on the steep entrance fee.

My "thesis" party will however be on the Friday before the race. We will be making a bunch of home made mexican food and margaritas, so consider it a pre-race party.

As for Ben predictions, I'm sure he will be one of the fastest blokes not in lycra.
